I think what makes this relationship so fascinating is that the two are polar opposites and dare I say....beautiful together? Rei generally keeps her emotions bottled in and has little friends while Minako tends to be outspoken and is very much a people person.

Basically in the manga the two have a sort of love/hate relationship. Rei tends to get aggrivated at Minako easily and Minako tends to over exert herself. However both girls admire each other very much. Minako even admitted she thought rei was very beautiful and cunning. Rei thinks that Minako can be too much at times but you can tell that she appreciates their friendship.

In the anime version somehow their relationship was written off. The only time they are seen together is in battle and together in a group with the other girls.

The live action version gave Minako and Rei their relationship back, however the relationship was much deeper then it was illustrated in the manga and anime version. In the live action version Rei was the first one to discover Minako's true identity as Sailor Venus and as the Princess. However when Sailor Mars decides to stay by the side of the princess instead of running after the Youma Sailor Venus (the princess) becomes very cold to her. As the leader of the senshi she makes Sailor Mars go through several tests to quicken her awakening. Later on when the real princess is revealed Sailor Venus takes her rightful position as leader of the senshi from Sailor Mars.
A tragedy occurs towards the end of the series that will show just how strong the relationship is between the two senshi.
